Since last December 1st, Granada has the honour of having the title of City of Literature, distinction awarded by Unesco to those cities which stand out because of their cultural and artistic heritage. This award is even more remarkable since it’s the first and only city in Spain and all the Spanish-speaking countries which gets this recognition. Other cities awarded were the following: Cracow (Poland), Melbourne (Australia), Reykjavík (Iceland), Dublin (Ireland), Iowa (USA), Nordwick (England), Edinburgh (Scotland), Dunedin (New Zealand), Heidelberg (Germany), and Praga (Czech Republic).
