Happy New Year to you all!! We are already back, starting a new year in the best mood: by teaching Spanish! That is why today, January the 2nd, we are also with you. We started 2017 with the desire of teaching Spanish, and we hope you have the desire to learn it! Although today is a bank holiday, Granada is full of activities. We show you some ideas to do after your Spanish class:
January the 2nd: Day of the Taking of Granada
On January the 2nd, King Boabdil surrendered the Kingdom of Granada to the Catholic Monarchs in 1492. Several official events take place in the city, including the parade of Moors and Christians (new activity of this year) and the parade of La Legión (part of the Spanish army). As a curious note, today it is possible for the citizens to sound the bell in the Torre de la Vela (which are in the Alcazaba of the Alhambra), especially women, since it is said that ringing the bell will give luck to the women who want to get married xD.
New Year’s Concert in Granada
The Lemberg Philharmonic will be in charge of performing the New Year’s concert in the auditorium Manuel de Falla. It will be today, Monday, January the 2nd 2017, and will begin at 7:00 p.m. It’s a perfect activity to start the year with good sensations and music! You still have time to buy your concert tickets here.
Christmas market and Belenes
You still have time to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in Granada. As you know, Christmas in Spain is celebrated until Dia de Reyes (which is 6 January). That’s why you still have the opportunity to visit the Christmas Markets of the Plaza Bib-Rambla or Fuente de las Batallas, as well as to know the Belenes that are spread throughout the center.
