The Palm Sunday of the Holy Week in Granada

The Holy Week has always been one of the most attractive events for tourists and the people who want to see all the processions offered in each corner of the city along eight days, from Sunday the 29th of March to Sunday the 5th of April.

In the first day of celebration, the Palm Sunday, the penitents dressed in blue and white will gather inundating the streets of Granada. The Sunday has a tradition: before the first exit of the Palm Sunday, the older brother of the last passion brotherhood of the previous year, the Santa María de la Alhambra, gives the key which let start the procession of the present year. The brotherhood La Borriquilla will close the penances and will give the key back to the brotherhood of Santa María de la Alhambra, which will keep it safe until the following year.

The brotherhood of the Borriquilla is leaving from Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro at 4p.m. and is finishing the procession at 11:05p.m..

The brotherhood of the Santa Cena is leaving and going back to its Templo, la iglesia se Santo Domingo en el Realejo at 6:30p.m. and at 00:05p.m..

The brotherhood of the Maravillas is leaving from the church of San Pedro and San Pablo at 6:15p.m. and is finishing the procession at 00:15p.m. at the Carrera de Darro and Plaza Nueva.

The brotherhood of the Despojado is leaving from the Convento del Ángel Custodio at 7:15p.m. and is finishing the procession at 00:30p.m. in the Casa Hermandad in Músico Ayala Cantó Street.

The brotherhood of the Cautivo y la Encarnación is leaving from Encarnación square at 6p.m. and is finishing the procession at 00:25p.m. in Alonso Cano Street.Iglesia del Perpetuo Socorro salida de la Borriquilla.Foto: Mrm.
