The 73rd edition of the Granada Festival has already begun: a meeting of great international music and dance artists.
Will you visit Granada in the months of June and July? If so, don’t miss the Granada Music and Dance Festival 2024. It will take place from June 7 to July 14, 2024: a total of 33 days divided between various shows scheduled around the Alhambra. And also in some of the most beautiful palaces and churches in our city.
We give you more details below!
Great orchestras and performers
It is a festival focused on classical music. The best international performers meet in Granada these days. In the Palace Concerts cycle, the star concert will be the one offered by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, on June 23. It will be directed by one of today’s most sought-after young directors, the Swiss Lorenzo Viotti.
Dance, flamenco, jazz and fado
Dance, the other great pillar that supports the Festival, will have a wide and varied offering: Spanish, flamenco, classical and contemporary dance. Three great choreographers will return with their respective companies:
- Granada-born Blanca Li (Dido y Eneas)
- Basque Lucía Lacarra (Lost Letters)
- Cádiz-born Sara Baras with her new show Vuela, dedicated to Paco de Lucía.
This section counts with the return to Granada of the Antonio Gades Company and Gades’ brilliant Blood Wedding in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of its premiere in Rome in 1974.
The Festival brings us a series of jazz with a Spanish accent. Furthermore, traditional flamenco recitals with well known artists such as:
- David Palomar
- El Pele
- Esperanza Fernández
- Montse Cortés
And also emerging artists such as Kiki Morente or Cristian de Moret, who will perform at La Chumbera and the Palacio de los Córdova.
Flamenco and fado have very similar origins and musical conceptions. For this reason, the flamenco nights will host this year a night of fado by the great Mariza, a unique artist who has one of the most versatile and recognized voices in Portuguese folklore.
The Manuel de Falla Courses and the FEX
Activities such as photography and inclusive scene workshops; piano and classical dance master classes; or courses in musical pedagogy, classical dance and musical creation for audiovisual media are some of the topics of the Manuel de Falla Courses.
The FEX (Granada Festival 2024 Extension) will take place once again through the streets, patios, theaters and squares of the different corners and districts of Granada and its province. Its programming will bring us closer to young musicians from Granada, as well as various Spanish and foreign groups through family shows and supportive and inclusive proposals.
