The Granada Book Fair is the time of year when Granada reveals its full cultural and literary essence. This year, the 44th edition will transform the heart of the city into a vibrant stage of stories, encounters, and discoveries.
For Spanish language students, attending this event is not just a leisure opportunity. It is a unique way to immerse yourself in the Spanish language and in Granada’s social life.
Dates and Location: The Beating Heart of Granada
The Granada Book Fair 2026 will take place from April 23 to May 3. The opening date is no coincidence: it coincides with World Book Day and the feast of Saint George — patron saint of booksellers in many Spanish-speaking countries. The stalls will stretch along the charming Carrera de la Virgen and Fuente de las Batallas, just steps from iNMSOL. It is a strategic location that allows you to move from our Spanish classes to total immersion in literary vocabulary in less than five minutes.
Strolling among books beneath the grand trees of this historic avenue is an experience every Spanish student should have at least once.
What to Expect?
This year’s theme, „Así que pasen cinco años“, pays tribute to the great Granadan poet Federico García Lorca. The fair is strongly focused on supporting Granada’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2031.
You’ll find hundreds of exhibitors — from major chains to small independent bookshops.
You will discover an endless array of titles spanning from classics of Spanish literature to the latest publishing releases. It is the perfect place to practice your Spanish by chatting with booksellers, always eager to recommend the most suitable read for you.
The Magic of Granadan Nights
If the fair is lively and colourful in the morning, it becomes magical at night. The evening activities are the highlight of the programme:
- Author Meet-and-Greets: Many writers present their works between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Listening to an author speak about their work is an unbeatable listening comprehension exercise. You will also have the chance to get your book signed at the Official Signing Tent (Caseta Oficial de Firmas).
- Poetry and Science Nights: Don’t miss the poetry readings under the stars or the science debates of „La Noche en Blanco“. These events often run until 10:30 p.m., offering a different and fascinating perspective on Spanish culture.
- The Pregón: The inaugural speech is a solemn yet festive moment that marks the beginning of ten days of pure passion for books.
Topics such as translation, science, and young adult literature will take centre stage at meetings held in the Pabellón Andalucía or the Sala Zaida.
