Granada International music and dance festival

Spanish students who are in Granada in the coming weeks are in luck!

Few cities in the Western world can boast of having a festival that reaches its 70th anniversary. Granada is one of them and that is why it wants to celebrate it with pride and enthusiasm.

Although the origins date back to 1883, with the historic concerts in the Palace of Carlos V of the Alhambra, during the Corpus Christi festivities, the Festival was not created until 1952 as the 'First Festival of Spanish Music and Dance’, thanks to the decided impulse of the director of Fine Arts, Antonio Gallego Burín, who materialized the dream of the music critic and technical secretary of the National Music Commissioner, Antonio de las Heras, with the support of three ministries. This is how Granada was placed on the European cultural map and international support was given to the precarious cultural policy of a totalitarian regime that needed to open up to the world.

In this way, we are presented with the 70th edition of the Granada International Music and Dance Festival, which will take place between June 17 and July 18, 2021.

Spectacular settings

The most beautiful enclaves of the city will host a large number of music and dance shows over the next few weeks. Among them:

  • Palace of Carlos V
  • Generalife Theater
  • La Chumbera Auditorium
  • Santa Iglesia Catedral
  • San Jerónimo Monastery
  • Federico García Lorca center.

Festival opening

On June 17, the Ciudad de Granada Orchestra, Paul McCreesh, Nuria Rial and Mª José Moreno open the festival at the Palacio de Carlos V, at 10:30 pm.
