Museums Day 2023 is celebrated internationally on 18 May.
Cultural activities do not stop in Granada! We like to promote the most important cultural events in our city, and with this could not be less. We leave you with all the information to make the most of this Museums Day 2023.
International Museum Day
Why is this day celebrated? It is an important date that the International Council of Museums began to celebrate in 1977. This day has gained more and more popularity: it highlights a different theme every year, according to the concerns of the museum community. This year the motto is:
“Museums, sustainability and well-being”
Museums make a fundamental contribution to the well-being and sustainable development of our communities. As institutions of trust they are in a unique position to foster positive change. Museums can contribute in many ways to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: from supporting climate action and promoting inclusion, to combating social isolation and improving mental health.
From this perspective, the celebration focuses on 3 of the sustainable development goals (SDGs):
- Global health and welfare (No 3)
- Climate action (No 13)
- Life of terrestrial ecosystems (No 15)

Museum of the Alhambra
‘The Museum of the Alhambra open to diversity: an inclusive Museum’
Free visits accompanied by the Alhambra Museum Volunteers
Hours: 10-13 hours and 18-19 hours.
Place and inscription: Alhambra Museum.
In collaboration with the Jean Piaget School of Special Education (Ogíjares, Granada) we will carry out a series of activities to make the Museum of the Alhambra a more inclusive space for people with specific needs (sensory access for blind or deaf visitors and intellectual access to visitors with Autism Spectrum Disorder).
Archaeological and Ethnological Museum of Granada
Guided tour of the permanent exhibition for the general public.
Time: 12:00 h.
Fibers, fabrics and looms. Educational workshop for family.
Time: 11:30 am.
Museum of Fine Arts of Granada
Aseptic: contemporary dance show for the general public.
Time: 18:30 h.
Guided tour for the general public.
