Synopsis:
In a fishing village, Kino (Armendáriz) and his wife Juana (Marqués) are in anguish because their little son Coyotito was stung by a scorpion, the local doctor (a foreigner) refuses to treat the child and the boy is taken to a curandera. Later the doctor and his brother (Wagner), a loan shark meet Kino again, after he finds an expensive pearl and decide to steal it from him.

Synopsis:
Luna and Amar are a happy couple, deeply in love. Their only problem is that they haven’t been able to conceive a child. Amar, who works as an air traffic controller, also has a drinking problem and when he is discovered drinking on the job, he’s fired. He runs into Bahrija, an old friend from the Bosnian war whom he hasn’t seen in years, and Bahrija offers him a job teaching computer skills to kids at the fundamentalist camp he has set up on a faraway lake. Amar finds peace and contentment there, stops drinking, and gradually becomes more attracted to fundamentalism himself. But the thoroughly secular Luna, who’s a flight attendant, can’t walk that path with him and a serious rift develops in their relationship.

Synopsis:
A field of olive trees is felled, copies of more than 500 and 1000 years old trees are disappearing in a flash before our eyes and turned into firewood. The oldest and largest trees avoid the tragic end. A huge bulldozer pulls the trees from the roots, loads them on a large trailer and export to remote place where olive trees has never been before.

Synopsis:

Incensed that his house was sold without his permission, Ricardo argues his case before the authorities. When Aurora claims that Ricardo assaulted her, the authorities seem to take her side and the case heads for court.

Synopsis:

Eila is despised as scab until a lawyer helps her — and hundreds of her colleagues around the country — file a winning lawsuit against the Finnish State. Subplots include a gentle but clueless musician boyfriend and Eila’s son, a juvenile delinquent just released from prison and trying to cope with his own problems. Based on true events in the 1990s when cleaning women of the former National Building Board sued the Finnish government for illegal discharges.
