The Magic of History Returns at the Capitulations of Santa Fe 2024!
From April 19th to 21st, Santa Fe transforms into a unique stage to celebrate the city’s most important historical event. The Capitulations of Santa Fe are a Festival of Tourist Interest of Andalusia in 2009. Get ready to immerse yourself in a journey through time and relive the encounter that changed the course of history. The signing of the Capitulations between the Catholic Monarchs and Cristobal Colón on April 17th, 1492, in the town of Santa Fe, on the outskirts of Granada, which detailed the agreements reached with Cristobal Colón regarding his planned expedition by sea towards the west.
History of the Festival
Since 1961, the Capitulations of Santa Fe have been celebrated as a simple act of homage to the Hispanic Peoples. In its evolution, two significant periods stand out:
First Period (1980-1992): Preparing for the Fifth Centenary
From 1980 to 1992:
- the Ibero-American Cooperation Institute
- the Provincial Delegation of Culture
- the Granada Provincial Council
Supported this festival, which initially had an Americanist tendency in its cultural activities.
Second Period (1993-2021): Tourist-Cultural Festival
Since 1993, the Capitulations became a tourist-cultural festival, featuring activities such as the Medieval Market and the Music of the Worlds Festival, which attracted visitors from all over. In 2009, they were declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of Andalusia.

The festival extends over several days in April, with April 17th as the central date. Among the highlighted activities are:
- Institutional Commemoration Event: Held around April 17th, it commemorates the signing of the Capitulations and promotes understanding of the history and culture of the American continent.
