FIP Granada 2026: A City That Breathes Poetry

From May 4 to 9, 2026, Granada becomes the beating heart of world poetry.

The Granada International Poetry Festival (FIP) brings together authors from 12 countries for the largest literary gathering in Southern Europe, pushing the city toward its bid as European Capital of Culture 2031.

In its 22nd edition, the program extends to six intense days for the first time. Poetry moves beyond the historic city center to reach the towns and villages of the province. The FIP is not an event to watch from the sidelines: it is an experience to live firsthand.

Between the Alhambra and the Huerta de San Vicente

Imagine listening to verses in Spanish on the same soil where, five hundred years ago, Venetian ambassador Andrea Navagero and poet Juan Boscán exchanged ideas about the Renaissance.

Or imagine attending a recital at the Huerta de San Vicente, the house museum of Federico García Lorca, as the late afternoon sun filters through the garden trees.

The FIP venues tell the story of a city where literature is in the air:

  • The Palace of Charles V
  • The Federico García Lorca Centre
  • The lecture halls of the University of Granada
  • The Provincial Public Library

And this year also Fuente Vaqueros, Alfacar, Víznar, Almuñécar, and many other towns. The entire province becomes an open-air stage.

Voices from Around the World

FIP 2026 brings Granada names of absolute international literary stature. Among the most anticipated:

  • Mircea Cărtărescu from Romania, considered one of the greatest living writers.
  • Billy Collins from the United States, former Poet Laureate of the United States Congress.

Alongside them, poets from Argentina, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Nicaragua, Mexico, Uruguay, Cuba, and Venezuela. A geographic map drawn through verse.

Poetry You Can Touch

The FIP does more than let you hear poetry.

  • Creative writing workshops open to everyone let you test yourself with words, guided by internationally renowned poets.
  • Evening recitals transform squares and gardens into open-air theaters. Meet-the-author sessions offer space for questions and direct dialogue.
  • The educational program brings poetry to schools across the city and province.

FIP Infantil is dedicated to the youngest readers. Because the festival firmly believes that poetry has no age or language barriers: all you need is the desire to listen.

An Opening and Closing to Remember

Monday, May 4: the opening day begins with a dialogue at the Faculty of Education marking the 500th anniversary of the historic meeting between Boscán and Navagero. In the afternoon, at the Huerta de San Vicente, cantaora Ángeles Toledano pays tribute to Federico García Lorca in a moment of pure emotion.

Saturday, May 9: the closing ceremony at the Palace of Charles V is dedicated to Saint John of the Cross in his jubilee year. On stage, poetry, dance, and music with Carmen Linares and Jorge Pardo. A finale that promises to stay with you.
