For the 66th time our beautiful city organizes the International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada, which will take place from 23rd of June until 14th of July. Thirty-three different music and dance events will be performed in the most emblematic places of Granada during those 3 weeks.
Since its first beginnings in 1883 with the symphony concerts in the Palace of Carlos V and its creation in 1952, the International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada has not only become one of the most attractive cultural events of Granada, but also a stimulant of the economy. The Festival is of course above all a delight for the senses, but it’s also an incentive for cultural, educational, touristic and socio-economic activity.
This year’s program welcomes a big variety of performances and famous artists. Enjoy contemporary dance, ballet and flamenco performances, symphony concerts, chamber music, voice or piano recitals and much, much more in some of Granada’s most beautiful and exceptional places!
The musical staff features amongst others the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Teatro di San Carlo of Naples, the Spanish National Orchestra and Choir, the Spanish National Youth Orchestra and our very own City of Granada Orchestra. The dancers that will attend to the Festival this year belong to some extraordinary dance companies, such as the Spanish National Ballet, the Dutch National Ballet and the Ballet of the Teatro di San Carlo of Naples.
Apart from those performances, there will be for the 14th time an extension of the Festival to the whole city – the FEX (Festival Extension). From June, 19th until July, 15th you can discover in numerous places all over the city different performances and street activities for free, which are carried out by young soloists or groups from different countries, like for example the students of the Conservatorium of Professional Dance “Reina Sofía” of Granada.
Concerts of different styles and epochs, dance and flamenco performances, shows of the performing arts, diverse participatory events for old and young… the FEX transforms the streets into a communicative and common cultural space, open to the public.
Don’t miss this great opportunity to discover Granada, the Spanish culture and the world of the performing arts from this new approach!
