One of the things we recommend at iNMSOL is going out for tapas in Granada. You can’t miss it!

Are you spending a few days in Granada? We know that our city offers a wide range of cultural experiences. And an essential part of our culture is the gastronomy. Specifically, the tradition of “going out for tapas.” Have you heard of this expression?

What does “going out for tapas” mean?

“Going out for tapas” or “tapeo” is a deeply rooted social tradition in Spain. It involves going to bars or taverns and ordering tapas (small portions of food), usually accompanied by a drink like wine, beer, or vermouth. It’s an informal, social activity, where the goal is not just to eat, but also to spend time with friends or family. Going out for tapas in Granada is a true cultural and social experience!

Ir de tapas

The tapas can be quite varied: from olives or patatas bravas to more elaborate dishes like Galician-style octopus. Depending on the region of Spain, tapas can be served free with a drink (as in Granada) or charged separately. One interesting aspect of “going out for tapas” is moving from bar to bar, trying different tapas and atmospheres.

Our must-visit places for tapas

Here’s a list of recommendations for “going out for tapas”:

  1. Los Manueles

Without a doubt, Los Manueles is a perfect place for tapas. You order a drink, and they bring you the tapa of the day. It could be paella, fried eggplants with honey, or meatballs—anything! Everything is delicious and also affordable!

  • Our recommendation: the ham croquettes, which are worth mentioning for their size, and the mixed paella, which is spectacular.

  1. Ávila II

This is another restaurant worth trying! If you want to keep eating without ordering more drinks, you can order an extra tapa!

  • Our recommendation: roasted ham and the Ávila burger.

  1. Los Diamantes

If you love seafood, you can’t leave Granada without trying this classic spot. In this small bar, they only serve fish—fried calamari, prawns, etc. You can’t choose the tapa, but everything they serve is delicious. You can also order larger portions from the menu.

  • Our recommendation: calamari and hake, or fried eggplant with honey.

  1. La Sitarilla

This place is a must on any tapas tour of Granada. It’s a very traditional spot, a real classic! They usually serve a generous tapa of meat in a delicious sauce, and the prices are reasonable.

  • Our recommendation: ham croquettes or scrambled eggs with potatoes and peppers.

  1. Bodegas Castañeda

This is a legendary bar, super authentic to Granada. One tapa might not be enough, so if you’re really hungry, we suggest ordering the “tabla Castañeda caliente,” a mix of croquettes, Spanish omelette, ham with sirloin, bread, salmon with Roquefort, and more.

  • Our recommendation: the *remojón granadino* (a salad of vegetables, orange, and smoked fish) or the ham croquettes and Spanish omelette.

  1. La Esquinita de Javi

We recommend this restaurant where you can eat incredibly good seafood, and it’s very close to our iNMSOL school!

  • Our recommendation: Russian salad, assorted fish, and of course, seafood rice.

  1. Gran Café Bib-Rambla y Café Fútbol

Although it’s not about tapas, we also recommend something for “merienda” (afternoon snack). They serve amazing churros here! It’s the go-to place for churros, which are soft and crispy at the same time, while the hot chocolate is rich and thick.

We hope this list helps you get to know our culture better through your palate! As always, we look forward to seeing you at iNMSOL, and for more cultural information, follow us on our social media.
