Today we bring you a recipe of delicious Salvadoran pupusas. Pupusas are usually accompanied with a tomato sauce or pickled very easy to prepare: chop the cabbage and carrot, slice the onion and add the jalapeño. Put all the ingredients to boiling water and leave it for few minutes until it becomes tender, take it out and add vinegar, salt and pepper to taste.
- 2 cups of cornmeal (in Spain you can buy the P.A.N.)
- 3 cups of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- Mozzarella, beans, bacon, ground beef, vegetables etc.
In a bowl mix the cornmeal with water, add a tablespoon of salt and knead well until get soft dough. Dip your hands in the water, form a ball of dough and pat it out in your hand to form “small size plate”. Put a tablespoon of your filling in the center of the dough (use fillings with your favorite ingredients: cheese, fried beans with ham etc.). With fingers join the edges to enclose the filling inside and pat it a little bit to get the form of a tortilla. Put the pupusa in a pan and fried until it begins to turn golden brown.
