The Indefinite Article

SINGULAR Un, Uno Una
PLURAL Unos Unas

The indefinite article  is usually used

•    Talking about something for the first time
Ejemplo: Vamos al cine a ver una película

•    An unspecified person or thing.
Ejemplo : Quiero un libro – I want a book.
Tiene una idea – He has an idea.

The indefinite article is omitted:

•    After the verb to be refering  to a person’s nationality, profession or relgion
Ejemplo : Mi madre es profesora; Juan es español;  Yo soy católica.

•    Before the following words : tan, tanto, igual, otro, tamaño, semejante, doble, distinto, cierto.
Ejemplo : Hoy tengo _un_ examen difícil, y tengo _X_ otro examen mañana.

The plural indefinite article  (unos, unas)  means some:

 Ejemplo : Compré unas naranjas – I bought some oranges.
