COMPARATIVES

  • Superiority

MORE + ( Adjective) +THAN   Monica is more beautiful than Kathrine
MÁS + ( Adjective) +QUE     Monica es más guapa que Katherine

  • Inferiority

LESS +  ( Adjective) +  Than   Monica is less beautiful than Katherine
MENOS + ( Adjective) + QUE   Monica es menos guapa que Katherine

  • Equality

AS +  ( Adjective) + AS   Monica is as beautiful as Katherine
TAN +  ( Adjective) +  COMO Monica es tan guapa como Katherine

Notes
In comparatives of equality, tan is used with adjectives (tan guapa como) and adverbs (tan rápidamente como), while tanto (tanta, tantos, tantas) is used with nouns (tanto dinero como) and verbs (trabajamos tanto como).
Monica tiene tantos amigos como Katherine
Monica estudia tanto como Katherine

SUPERLATIVES

 

  • Absolute Superlative

In English the Absolute Superlative is expressed through adverbs
VERY/ REALLY/ EXTREMELY + ADJECTIVE  Monica is very beautiful
In Spanish with the adverb MUY or with the  suffix ÍSIMO/A Monica es guapísima/ muy guapa

  • Relative Superlative

DEFINITE ARTICLE + MOST + (Adjective)+ IN/ … Monica is the most beautiful in the school
DEFINITE ARTICLE + MÁS or Menos + (Adjective) + DE Monica es la más guapa de la escuela

Irregular comparative forms

Good = Bueno Mejor Óptimo
Bad = Malo Peor Pésimo
Big = Grande Mayor Máximo
Little = Pequeño Minor Mínimo
